Description
The council has a statutory duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to arrange for the collection of household waste and to ensure this waste is managed in accordance with applicable environmental legislation. Through the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012 and associated Scottish Government policy, the council is also required to promote the separate collection and recycling of key material streams. The provision of kerbside waste and recycling services is therefore an essential service for the council enabling compliance with legislative requirements while protecting public health, preventing environmental harm and supporting national recycling targets.
