Description
Birmingham City Council (The Council) is committed to enhancing the health & wellbeing of children at the start of life in order to enable them to achieve their full potential through childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood.
The aim is to break the intergenerational cycle of socio-economic disadvantage, premature disability, and reduced life expectancy. In Birmingham this includes the procurement of an integrated Early Years Health and Wellbeing system offer that includes universal and targeted Health and low intensity family support programmes and interventions.
To ensure the above, we are looking for an experienced CYP Specialist Public Health Lead. This contract will be for a maximum of 21 months in total with an annual review on the anniversary of the contract award and subject to demand of the business.
To meet the challenges of this agenda the candidate will hold specialist accreditation in Public Health and nursing disciplines. The current challenges of the Children and Young People agenda include:
a) The procurement of an integrated (Universal Health Visiting, targeted Health Visiting and Family Support) Early years Health & wellbeing Offer as part of a transformed Early years System; b) The mobilisation of a recently transformed School Health Advisory Service for 5-19 age group; c) Support the Council and NHS partnerships to commission services to meet the needs of Children, Young People, and families in order to improve their health and wellbeing.; and d) Supporting efforts to safeguard and protect children in the Council and wider partnerships of the Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board. This may involve chairing the Child Death Overview Panel.
In addition we will look for experience that includes:
1. Strategic awareness and the development and implementation of strategies/service changes which deliver improved outcomes for families
2. Working strategically in partnership, influencing and managing conflicts in order to deliver integrated/combined priorities/services across the City and wider.
3. Delivery of major change projects and programmes and implementation of innovative best practice.
4. Identifying, interpreting, and applying relevant national policy requirements.
5. Leading teams, supporting and developing staff members and actively managing poor performance.
