Description
Selnet with its existing delivery partners has been successful in submitting a Stage 1 bid for the Project to theBig Lottery Fund, which is matching funding from the European Social Fund. A Stage 2 bid is presently pendingand the award of any contract from this process is conditional on funding being granted in accordance with the bid. 'Invest In Youth' is a project aimed at engaging and inspiring the most disengaged young people resident inthe Lancashire LEP area. It will target 16-24 year olds who are unemployed or economically inactive withmultiple social, emotional and economic barriers. These young people are faced with a seemingly unending andconfusing environment of challenges including intergenerational worklessness, poverty, benefit dependency,low skills, lack of employment experience and they often live in communities with few working role models.They lack context and understanding of how they fit into and could benefit from a growing Lancashire economy.Careers advice and guidance, supported by strong employability support is essential in supporting young peopleto access employment opportunities as they become available, but these young people need more. They needto be inspired, they need their horizons broadened, they need to see above and beyond all the barriers in frontof them and begin to see a way out, a way up. We understand that each person will have their own, possiblycomplex mix of challenges and will need a fully personalised approach to find their way through this journey andultimately bring them closer to the labour market. The aim of the project is for longer term re-engagement ratherthan short term outputs.
