Description
Hardwick Clinical Commissioning Group, on behalf of itself and North Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group, is considering procuring a perinatal service for North Derbyshire.
The service would support women with low to moderate mental health issues (or at risk of) such as post natal depression (PND).
The successful provider would need to train local community volunteers (who have experience of parenthood and sometimes mental health ill health) to provide long-term, one-to-one peer support through pregnancy and the first year of motherhood; encouraging positive attachment, reduce isolation and improve the mental health and wellbeing of mothers; which in turn supports positive outcomes for children in later life.
The service provider would be expected to match volunteers with mothers as early as possible - ideally in the first few months of pregnancy. The volunteers will then visit the mothers on a weekly basis, normally for a few hours, to provide both emotional and listening support and help with practical issues. The volunteers will also help mothers access local services for example by accompanying them to their local Children's Centres to meet with other parents.
In addition the to this the volunteers will help model positive interaction and play with babies and act as single point of contact and a trusted friend who families can talk to. The service provider will be expected to deliver weekly parent support groups held at local centres, which are designed to reduce isolation and encourage the development of positive mother-baby relationships.
If you are interested in providing the Perinatal Service in North Derbyshire then please email [email protected] no later than 17:00 Friday 2nd October 2015 with your contact details and no more than 500 words summarising the service you could offer.
