Description

This service will ensure that oxygen assessment and review is managed by a single team for the 3 CCGs and that oxygen using respiratory disease patients are provided with additional support to manage their conditions. The service is for adult ( 18years and over ) patients. It is understood that the majority of this care will be required and received by patients with COPD but includes adult patients receiving oxygen for any reason.

A home oxygen and respiratory support service will provide the 3 CCGs an assessment service for respiratory patients currently receiving, or who potentially require, oxygen therapy across primary and secondary care. This service will provide an opportunity to help ensure a consistent and robust approach towards ordering and providing oxygen therapy supported by patient assessment and follow up services. This service will include assessment for and provision of Long Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT), Ambulatory oxygen and Short Burst Oxygen Therapy (SBOT).

The service will: • Review all adult patients currently receiving home oxygen therapy. • Provide more detailed reviews for all specified respiratory patients (those with COPD, severe chronic asthma, interstitial lung disease and bronchiectasis) as defined by NICE and National Clinical Strategy guidelines • Provide initial oxygen screening for respiratory patients referred by other health professionals • Prescribe oxygen for relevant oxygen users • Provide follow up services and continuing support for all specified respiratory patients (as listed above) • Update health professionals on oxygen provision for non COPD/respiratory patients • Demonstrate costs savings with sufficient capacity to justify the retention of the service • Provide specialist advice/support to specified respiratory patients and their caring health professionals to ensure community care is achieved

Additional information: Potential Providers are asked to please note the following: • The service specification and the electronic application form can be found online at www.nhssourcing.co.uk • The successful provider will be required to sign the NHS Standard Contract for the service, accepting all terms and conditions. • Applications will be received until 18/12/2017 (12:00) • If applicants are asked clarification questions during the evaluation stage they will have 48 hours to respond
