Description
Over the last 5 years the team at Exeter Cathedral have produced a comprehensive Masterplan for the Cathedral and its Precinct. This Masterplan addresses all change and development necessary to support the liturgical and activity plans. This first phase of the Masterplan is the '2020s Vision - Investing in our Welcome'. Delivering the 2020s vision will:
â¢Radically improve accessibility within the Cathedral Precinct by providing a new Cloister to connect the Cathedral to the Chapter House and Pearson Cloister Building. â¢Provide new lighting within the Cathedral and Chapter House to support the activity plan and highlight the historic fabric and artefacts within. â¢Safeguard the historic fabric by installing a new heating system that focuses on heating the people; not the vast spaces and vaults above. â¢Safeguard the Cathedral's finances by reducing its carbon footprint by installing sustainable building services; low-energy and efficient. â¢Safeguard the misericords within the Quire for future generations to enjoy and use through repair, access and interpretation. â¢Support the activity plan by providing essential facilities for the users; comfort, safeguarding and security as well as WC's! â¢Create more space for exhibition and interpretation within the Cathedral and Cloister; by creating effective storage space and more roofed space!
The Dean & Chapter of Exeter Cathedral have been awarded a development grant from the National Heritage Lottery Funding (NHLF) and received permission to start. The next step is to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the Design Team and to progress the capital works to RIBA Work Stage 4. Expressions of interest are sought for this contract at this time.
Additional information: The contracting authority considers that this contract may be suitable for economic operators that are small or medium enterprises (SMEs). However, any selection of tenderers will be based solely on the criteria set out for the procurement. All Quantity Surveyors who express and interest in the project will be invited to submit a Tender. Tenders will be appraised on cost (value for money) and quality.
As part of the Tender, all interested parties will be required to demonstrate experience and understanding of:
â¢Working in the historic built environment, specifically Grade 1 listed buildings. â¢Working with Cathedrals, under the Care of Cathedral Measure, and engaging with an FAC and the CFCE. â¢Working collaboratively with statutory consultees and interested parties such as Historic England, the SPAB, the Victorian Society. â¢Working on National Heritage Lottery Fund (NLHF) projects to a similar or greater value. â¢Working on archaeologically sensitive sites above and below ground. â¢Working on complex phased projects that form part of a wider masterplan. â¢And knowledge of Exeter Cathedral.
As part of the Tender, all interested parties will be required to provide details of three projects that illustrate experience of the above.
As part of the Tender, all interested parties will be required to provide a methodology for carrying out the role and responsibilities set out in the project particulars.
As part of the Tender, all interested parties will be required to provide a fee proposal for providing these services during the Development Phase and Delivery Phase of the project.
The deadline for submission of Tenders will be 5pm on Friday 12th June 2020.
