The contract will be awarded based on the criteria set out on the sourcing documents.

Tenders are invited for the design, construction and pre-deployment testing of a rig that can be deployed from a research vessel to the seabed in c.120 m depth in the North Sea. The rig will form part of a suite of instrumentation required to support the EU Horizon 2020 project "Strategies for Environmental Monitoring of Marine Carbon Capture and Storage" (STEMM-CCS) that is to be carried out in the North Sea during 2017 to 2019, and will specifically enable the controlled release of CO2 gas from a point 3 m below the seabed. The purpose of the rig is to carry to the seabed, and then to position, a pipe or similar gas conduit within the seabed sediment with its outlet end at a position approximately 3 m below the seabed and oriented in a generally upward attitude. The inlet end will remain approximately 0.5 m above the seabed and at least 7 m distant from the buried outlet end. The lowest point of the pipe will be no less than 1 m below the outlet end (see figure 1). This is to ensure that the CO2 gas released from the outlet end will permeate upwards through the sediment and cannot track back along the path of the pipe.
