Description

A project dedicated to enhancing the understanding on the impacts of pulse trawling has been commissioned by Defra (UK Government). One component of the project has the objectives to: 'Compare catching performance and measurable impact of a pulse trawl and beam trawl during commercial fishing trials'.

To achieve this objective a comparative trial will be carried out and requires access to 1 pulse trawler and 1 beam trawler. The specific objectives of the trial will be to compare the total catch (species, sizes) including benthos, the condition of the catch (vitality, injury), and relative measurable impact (for each tonne of sole caught), between the gears.
